Mobile Honeybee Pollination for Diversified Agriculture on O'ahu

Honeybees provide "crop insurance" when all other production factors are favorable. The presence of honeybee hives in adequate numbers will increase both fruit yields and fruit quality, and also will result in faster and more even setting of the fruit. Properly deployed honeybee hives can return far more income to the farmer than the cost of their rental. Recent experiments with small to medium cucumber fields showed a reduction of 2nd grade fruit from 25% of the harvest to 7% when 2 honeybee hives (costing $35-45 each) per acre were used. . .and the overall yields per acre increased by 2 to 3 times!
